Message from the President:
Courtney M. P. Hollowell, M.D. FACS

I am proud to accept the position of President of the Chicago Urological Society (CUS) and join an elite group of individuals who have led this historic organization. I count it one of the greatest honors of my life. Clearly, we cannot expect to remain relevant in today’s ever-changing world by adopting the status quo. Under the talented leadership of our recent past – presidents, we have continued to move forward into the 21st century offering first class educational programs. I am grateful to have such an experienced and dedicated group of colleagues working with me on the Executive Board. I am confident that as a team we can meet the challenges that await us.

The theme of this year’s meeting – “Reflect on the past, celebrate the present and create our future” references the vital leadership role that the CUS and its members have played, are playing and will play to improve urological health access, services and outcomes for our patients. CUS continues to build on its historic roots, but has evolved to embrace the needs of the modern urologist.

Our venerable society has been woven into the fabric of the urological community for more than 100 years, providing a setting to exchange ideas and network among its members. The executive board, program chairman and I have been preparing for what I am sure will be an excellent 2011-2012 scientific program. This season meetings will focus on prostate cancer, sexual health, genitourinary reconstruction, female urology, minimally invasive urology and urolithiasis. The scientific program will feature keynote speakers of international stature including Alan W. Partin, Culley C. Carson, Richard A. Santucci, J. Christian Winters, and Vipul Patel. Located in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, the University Club provides the perfect setting for a lively discussion and debate of urological issues. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to this year’s season.

Our future looks even brighter with new talent coming into leadership positions this year. Thomas M.T. Turk and Christopher M. Gonzalez will serve as this year’s Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer, respectively. I am certain that both of which will give our society many years of capable, energetic leadership.

Finally, I wish to thank the many CUS members, our management team and industry supporters who have made this year’s meetings possible. Our best days are without question ahead of us. It’s been said that with great challenges come great opportunities. We have a unique opportunity to help mold our society into a more influential and modernized organization – one that will allow our members to better meet the needs of their patients.
